Banking: There are three banks located on Paradise Island. Scotia Bank, The Royal Bank of Canada and First Caribbean Bank offer the convenience of automated tellers as well as regular banking services. An automated teller machine in the casino at Atlantis provides US$ cash. These and other banks offer US dollar financing for the purchase of Bahamian real estate (see the financing section of our Investor Guide). New Fire and Ambulance Station: A community project by Kerzner International, the Paradise Island Fire and Ambulance Station will be completed by the end of 2005, with emergency medical facilities and over $1 million in equipment including a new fire truck and new ambulance. Health Services: There are two major hospitals within a mile of Paradise Island. Ambulance services are reliable and close at hand. Air-ambulance is also available if transport to the nearby United States is required. Doctors are well trained and licensed. Walk-in clinics are plentiful for minor problems.
Mail & Courier Services: Although their cost is very reasonable, government post office boxes can be difficult to obtain. U.S. mail franchises such as Mail Boxes Etc. are a convenient option and express courier services are widely available.
School Bus Service: For 14 years Amalgamated Taxi and School Bus Service has provided school transportation to St. Andrews School for students living on Paradise Island. A fully insured family business, they provide one-way transfer for $350 per term per child, and round-trip transfer for $700 per term per child. Door-to-door pick-up starts at 7am, with well maintained mini-buses seating 15. An additional 34 seat bus is available, although Owner/Operator Mr. Watkins says that if he has more than 20 students he may need to arrange a central pick-up location for efficiency. St. Andrews is one of the top private schools in the country. www.st-andrews.com
Security and Maintenance: Paradise Island has both a Bahamian Police Station and a private security service that patrol the island. Security and alarm services for your personal property are easy to obtain. Daily street cleaning, a private waste management service and a private landscaping service keep the island green and pristine.
Utilities: Paradise Island water and sewerage are provided by Paradise Utilities. Electricity, telephone, high-speed internet and cellular phone services are provided by government corporations. Cable Bahamas provides television and cable internet services similar to those available in the United States. Most utility payments can be made at Paradise Island bank branches, though each bank has its own policy.
